The Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague signed an important memorandum of understanding that will open up new opportunities for Taiwanese investments in Czechia, particularly in the area of new technologies and development of the semiconductor industry.
Cooperation is focused on key areas of technology in which Taiwan holds a strong position in the global market. The Czech Republic supports Taiwanese investors in connection with planned investment projects and expansion of the supply chain, which brings forth new opportunities for technological development.
The signing of the memorandum will bring about a further deepening of the economic and cultural relations between the two countries. The Advanced Chip Design Research Centre (ACDRC), a Czech-Taiwanese joint project, was established in Brno in October 2024, bringing together experts from Brno University of Technology and Masaryk University in Brno and from the Czech Technical University in Prague.
“Last year, in close cooperation with Taiwan, we organised several major events and missions focused particularly on semiconductors, and we are pleased to see the strong interest of Taiwanese companies in the Czech Republic,” says Petr Očko, Deputy Minister for Digitalisation and Innovation at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Based on the memorandum, a specialised service centre will be established for Taiwanese investors with the purpose of helping to overcome cultural and economic differences. The centre will closely cooperate with CzechInvest. If interest arises on the part of strategic investors, the State Investment and Development Company will prepare land plots that are suitable for their operations in Czechia. Attention will be focused primarily on the Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions, as well as on other regions that can offer appropriate conditions for the projects of Taiwanese companies.
“We see the memorandum as another step toward strengthening cooperation between the two partners and enhancing support not only for the entry of new investors, but also for the technological development of domestic supply chains. Cooperation with the Taiwanese service centre will enable CzechInvest to better identify the specific needs and expectations of Taiwanese investors and to thus tailor its provided services to their requirements,” said Jan Michal, CEO of CzechInvest.
CzechInvest is aware of several Taiwanese companies that are interested in placing their investment projects in Czechia. Taiwan is currently the fourth most important source of foreign investments in Czechia in terms of the number of jobs created. The memorandum is part of a broader project of cooperation that also includes science, research, education and economic exchange.
The memorandum is an important step in the deepening of economic relations between Czechia and Taiwan and opens up new opportunities for strategic and other forms of cooperation in the area of industrial and technological development.
